New dinosaur discovery!!

I came by this astonishing article over at The Onion (www.theonion.com). Fascinating, just fascinating.

Paleontologists: 'We've Been Looking At Dinosaurs Upside down'

SALT LAKE CITY—In a paradigm-shattering revelation that has shocked the scientific community, paleontologists from the Utah Geological Survey offered definitive proof Wednesday that, for the past 175 years, everyone has been looking at dinosaur fossils upside down. "How they moved, what their appendages were for, we were wrong about everything," said Dr. Brian Kirch, explaining that new evidence indicates the animals slid along on what was once believed to be their backs. "Basically they scooted around by grabbing nearby vines with their mouths and pulling their bodies. Almost like a snake. What we used to think were legs were actually big flippers that flapped about in the air, driving them forward. Incredible." Kirch told reporters that when you think about it, paleontology makes a lot more sense now.

Hmmm, somehow I need a lot more convincing. Perhaps this "definitive proof" will apply to some of the fossils, but somehow, I can't see a triceratops with that great big head, scooting around on its back. Not to mention many fossils have feet with toes, and fossilized dinosaur foot prints have been found.
I guess we'll never see the end of theories regarding dinosaurs until we finally meet the One who made them, LOL. (Was not too long ago we were told they were birds, not reptiles.)

I love the Onion. I remember one time that some foreign country didn't know that the Onion was a satirical news source and used one of its pieces as a major headline or something. Quite the international blooper, eh? Funny stuff, though. Especially just imagining the dinosaurs scooting around and clawing their way with their mouths.

That is soooo funny. I wonder if the pterodactyls wings were really fins. Maybe the whole earth was under water at that time. . .

Great post. I have to come back and read all the comments :0)

Hey Peter,
Just so you know, the article is satire, and not to be taken literally ;)

Hey Logan,
Ha, that would be something of an international blooper!! And I agree, the upside down dinosaur discovery is delightfully absurd.

Hey KM,
Yes, that pterodactyl theory of yours could hold some weight over at the onion... :)

Oops, well, that makes a whole lot more sense then ;)

In awkward embarrassment, I will now slither away on my back, using my flippers to propel me with all haste.

Where's some juicy vines?

Ah. The Onion. My husband loves to read it, although I confess I don't see the attraction, this article is amusing.

Hi Shirley,
Well, I'm glad you at least thought this article humorous :)
I'm always a fan of good satire, and the onion does it well when they refrain from vulgarities (which they fail to do more often than not unfortunately).

Brandon, you're a month early! LOL

I love it when people take The Onion seriously. I remember when they spoofed Harry Potter... Oh, the forwards I got in my email inbox...

For a moment I read that and went "Huh?!" and then I started giggling, imagining a dinosaur with flippers sliding along on its back... Thanks for the laugh.

Hey Chris :)
Yeah, I loved this one...I never caught the Harry Potter one! I'll have to check that out and show my wife.
